L.O.L. !
Many thanks for that, it sounds like the right song, but the one I seek I think is much older than 'Bonzo-Dog' Band.
'L.S.D.' might have been in the original, as it also meant 'Pounds, shillings and pence '
(L' for 'Librum', meaning 'pound' , I think, in Latin ;
's' for shillings, of course,
and the 'd' was the letter put after pence, for 'denarius' (?), or something similar in Latin !
But you are too young to remember the old money !
It's only old fogies like me who remember all that!
12 old pence to the shilling, 20 shillings to the pound.
So for 'two pounds fifteen shillings and sixpence, you'd write:
' 2. 15s. 6d.' (the is an adapted 'L')
A nightmare to work out addition, multiplication, etc.!
Many thanks for responding.
Best Wishes,
Rosemarie.

I have a version of Ali Baba's Camel by The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. It was written by Noel Gay and was part of the musical production 'Radio Times'.

I guess some of the lyrics in The Bonzo's version are different, because they go:

You've heard of Ali-Baba
Forty thieves, had he,
Out for what we all want,
Lots of L.S.D.
He also had a camel
Stole it from a zoo
How he loved the camel
And the camel loved him, too.

I doubt the LSD was in the original!

In the early 1950's, we had a record (one of the old fashioned type, that broke if you dropped it!), a song which started, 'Ali Baba's Camel, loved Ali baba so, No Matter where he went to, The camel had to go..." It's so silly, but I just would like to know if I could hear it again somhow! I did the 'Parson's Code', but no matches were found....Can anyone help, please?

How to insert music:

Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.

How to post an audio recording:

If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:

  1. Record your audio here.
  2. You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
  3. copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]

How to mark a thread as solved:

If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
