didn't get a message about your editing.
the drawback is that you don't know what has changed, but the (more important?) advantage is that you do not get a message for every typo or minor detail that people correct/add.

Good question. How many notifications did you now get? I edited an earlier post in this thread before posting this message.

As far as I understand it, "watch thread" simply means that you get any new posts by e-mail. You can also watch a whole forum. If you do that, you are also notified if there is a new thread.
The e-mail stuff started working only today, though, because the e-mail addresses were only today properly migrated from the old forum.
These notifications do not have much to do with editability, other than that both things work only if you log in.

I am adding this text to see whether Ivo, who might be watching this thread, will get a notification.

Subject: Re: edit postings
I am waiting for a sensible forum becoming available for Typo3. The typo3 forum has some other weaknesses that I don't like. There is already something that is almost ready (I forgot the name of that extension - it is based on some popular forum software that you see everywhere). Once it is ready, I am going to incorporate it and add the melody capacity. That should then fix the problem.
Workaround for now: You can see what the melody will look like in the melody editor. There is a button for generating the real Lilypond bitmap as it will be visible in the forum. You can then adapt the Lilypond code for that to look okay before posting it.
The pop-up Lilypond editor is another thing that needs to be fixed because of the bar line problems. That's also on the to-do list.

Subject: Edit melodies in postings?
Would it be possible to edit your own postings in the Melody Forum? I hesitate to add a melody using Lilypond, because it's easy to make a mistake in it, which would be awkward if it could not be corrected.

You must login to post a message to this conference.
How to insert music:
Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.
How to post an audio recording:
If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:
- Record your audio here.
- You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
- copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]
How to mark a thread as solved:
If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
