for what it's worth (great csny song, incidentally), i've determined that the tagalog children's song was probably on a program entitled "batibot," and the character who sang it was probably named kapitan basa.

it's such an eclectic list, I doubt if any single forum would have an answer to all of the questions. :-) You may be able to find band fan clubs that have their own forum. As for the Tagalog children's song... I have no idea where you could look. Do keep checking back here, as you will find several knowledgeable people who only show up infrequently on this forum.

thanks to w0lfie, i've found that #7 is from "the great escape." and i've determined that #6 is entitled "las perlitas." can anyone out there help me identify tunes 1-5? or suggest a forum where i might find someone who can help me identify the tunes? thank you.

sorry, that didn't turn out as i had anticipated; the guitar chords were not properly aligned with the melody notes. i've written it again below, with the guitar chords indicated in parentheses, inserted following the note with which the chord plays along in the song.

C(Am chord) D Eb F G F Eb D C D(G chord) Eb D C(Am chord)
C(Am chord) D Eb F G F Eb D C D(G chord) Eb D C(Am chord)
Eb F G(C chord) G C* G Eb G(G chord)
Eb F G(C chord) G C* G Eb G(G chord)

thanks for your response, fretsource. unfortunately, it's not "in the hall of the mountain king." the opening segment of the tune, if played in the key of c, is as follows. this is all within the same c-octave, except where marked with an asterisk, which is a high c:

C D Eb F G F Eb D C D Eb D C
C D Eb F G F Eb D C D Eb D C
Eb F G G C* G Eb G
Eb F G G C* G Eb G

if you have a guitar playing along, these are the chords that correspond to the melody:

guitar chord: Am G Am
melody C D Eb F G F Eb D C D Eb D C

guitar chord: Am G Am
melody C D Eb F G F Eb D C D Eb D C

guitar chord: C G
melody Eb F G G C* G Eb G

guitar chord: C G
melody Eb F G G C* G Eb G

i believe the song was released somewhere between 1988-1993. the album cover may have had a dark shadow of a natural landscape, perhaps tinged purple, but i could be wrong about that. thanks, i hope this helps in identifying the song.

Are you sure that no.2 is a new age instrumental? That line from Blondie sounds very much like Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King".

I was thinking of the theme from "The Great Escape" by Elmer Bernstein. I don't currently see it on the Musipedia, though. The first notes are different, but it darn close. You may have heard it in that Hummer H3 commercial. It's possible that even if it's not the exact song you heard in the Simpsons, maybe they were spoofing it.

That song was going to be my next guess. I know the one you are talking about, but I can't find it on Musipedia. I was going to add the music, but I am having problems with the lilypond tag for some reason.

How to insert music:

Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.

How to post an audio recording:

If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:

  1. Record your audio here.
  2. You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
  3. copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]

How to mark a thread as solved:

If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
