Almost certainly, you're describing the song "Amplifier" by the dB's which appears on their album "Repercussion". ("She'd taken everything. She'd taken everything. She took his cash, she took his checks, she took his soda, there was nothing left. And what she couldn't take, she found a way to break.")
Saw this video once perhaps 15 years ago or more. The chorus was "[name I don't remember]" [killed or hanged or hung] himself last night. Then they sing about what's been taken away from him. They took his [something], they took his [something], they took, everything [something that would fit the number of syllables as "everything in life that he had liked," although that's probably not even close.

How to insert music:
Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
