So pleased you found it. But now let's consider how remiss we were not to have checked it out and found it waiting for us right here in Musipedia.

CONTOUR SEARCH (good ol' Parsons Code) would have found it in just a few seconds. The first 8 notes * UUDUDUD pop Bach's Cello Suite No.1 into 5th place but with the repeat added * UUDUDUDDUUDUDUD it bubbles right up to the very top.

THANK YOU

Bach Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007

That's been bothering me for months. A quick search using your revised notation hit on a piece on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBI3w2I-oQc which was the wrong one, but in the 'related videos' there it was - 2nd link.

I've re-assembled the notes into 4 groups with repeats shown using |: :|
You will note that Group 2 is actually Group 1 with each of its notes raised to the next value.
Group 3 is actually Group 2 except for the sole change of the first note, from e' to cis'.
Group 4 is a repeat of Group 1.
It all seems like a pretty simple bit of note juggling.

I'm positive it's very well known, but for the life of me I can't remember the composer. It's 4/4 time and I'm pretty sure all 1/8th notes. It's also a strings piece ONLY (at least the selection in my head is). Also, the D4 is actually a d'3, but the jscript piano wouldn't accept that. It's also, I think, played on cello.

Thanks so much in advance.

How to insert music:

Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.

How to post an audio recording:

If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:

  1. Record your audio here.
  2. You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
  3. copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]

How to mark a thread as solved:

If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
