I guess one must be a musical genius to try and tap out the notes to a song on this website. Have tried both the keyboard search and flash piano. Both come up with "maybe you should.....blah blah blah (whatever it said)!! Doesn't help me at all. I have lost all of my hearing over the years so that makes it even worse. A song will pop into my head and I remember the melody....mostly the chorus of a song. As my hearing got worse over the years, I really had difficulty understanding the words when listening to a song. Anyway, I am tapping the notes correctly, or at least I think I am, but keep getting this "maybe you should....whatever. I may as well go out and buy a small keyboard just for this. I can no longer hear, but, I can remember how to plunk out a song and I am sure someone would recognize what the song is!!

I am not sure of whether a reasonably well-known popular tune is even in your database, but neither am I sure of the key it is in, so I chose one, and it is a series of half-notes that could be represented as A-Bb-G-F-A-Bb ... but it could equally well be denoted as C-Db-Bb-Ab-C-Db.... I know the scale-degree search is independent of key, but can the keyboard search be treated that way, too? The problem with scale-degree is that the intervals are too wide: either up or down.
Also, when I finish "inserting music" into my message by clicking on the piano keys, I see no way of returning to my text, and have to start over. Therefore, this time I won't try inserting anything.

How to insert music:
Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.
How to post an audio recording:
If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:
- Record your audio here.
- You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
