http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001GK2/ Amazon has a recording. Check out the second track ("Sonnenaufgang" - Sunrise). The first two bars are identical, but the rest is not. It's the sun's Leitmotif, so maybe it is in the Sunset "Sonnenuntergang" track as well. But I don't know.

adamcob says: "Classical and full orchestra". For me it sounds - at the beginning - like the Alpensinfonie by Richard Strauss. No Brandenburg Concerto. And only the beginning is correct. It's Eb major. Or any other Major scale. We must know if it is a romantic melody.

I currently don't remember the 6th Brandenburg concerto, but just as an illustration: for the 5th, you can find a reasonable MIDI file on the Web:

http://www.musipedia.org/search.0.html?sourceid=melody-url&tx_mpsearch_pi1%5bsubmit_button%5d=Search&tx_mpsearch_pi1%5bpc%5d=lily+c'8+c'8+e'8+e'8+g'8+g'8+c''8+c''8+b'8+c''8+b'8+a'8+g'8+f'8+e'8+d'8+c'8+c'8+e'8+e'8+g'8+g'8+c''8+c''8+d''4+g'8&categories=CPHA&filtertext=&coll=w

It's called "American President", I guess because of some movie.

To answer this question, one can search for keywords, e. g.:
http://musipedia.org/contour/Brandenburg
(here I am somewhat abusing this link feature - it is actually meant for something like: http://musipedia.org/contour/ DUDDDUDUDDDUDUD )

This shows that while the 6th Brandenburg concerto is in the database, its actual melody is not stored yet, only the melodic contour. Because of this, only the contour search will find it, but not the algorithm that compares melodies. At the beginning of the result list for a melody query, there is a link to the contour search for the same query, or you can directly start a contour search somewhere under "Melody Search".

I don't have the sheet music at hand, so I can't enter it right now, but you would be very welcome to add it to the existing entries :-) - after doing that, you would also find it with the melody search.

Just out of curiosity - did you try a web search? I think there is a good chance that there is a MIDI rendition of the Brandenburg concertos indexed by Musipedia, but I am not sure about that.

Hi...as an experiment I entered the melodies of the last movement of Beethoven's Spring Sonata and the 1st movement of the 6th Brandenburg and neither showed up in the search. Does that mean no one has entered that data? Other stuff that bore no resemblance did come up. Curious.

I note that if you were to change all of the sharps into flats, ie, D# into Eb, A# into Bb and G# into Ab, the key would suddenly become E flat major. Not only that, but the first and last notes of your 8-bar melody are both E flats. I guess that's pretty strongly E flat. Of course, it can be easily transposed into any major key, but maybe it helps you find your tune.

How to insert music:

Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.

How to post an audio recording:

If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:

  1. Record your audio here.
  2. You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
  3. copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]

How to mark a thread as solved:

If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
