I agree!

Now, as to your tune - I don't know it but note some kind of similarity with a bit of Enio Morricone's famous melody "Gabriel's oboe" from "The Mission" soundtrack.

If you go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000WFZ/104-2367458-2939137?v=glance and down to the Samples you will find a 30-second sound byte of "Gabriel's oboe". At the 23 second mark you will hear something that sounds vaguely like your tune.

Does it matter that/if I am wrong? Not really. Someone around here will answer your query but meanwhile you will have heard another nice melody :)

Hello,

WOW! This is a really fantastic website!

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me identify the following work. My first guess was Handel (maybe Royal Fireworks), but I've listened to all the Handel I can find on the web and haven't heard it.

A few clues to go along with the notation below: It's very grand and slow (around 85 bpm). Orchestrally, there's a moving/running eight-note counterpoint an octave or two below the melody. Under the whole note in the 4th measure, the horns do a sort of rousing "buh-dum, bah-dum, bah-dum," on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th beats, each a third higher than the one before it. In the 1st and 5th measures, at the end of the measure, where there's a dotted quarter in the melody, the timpani plays two eighth notes in the 4th beat of the measure (sorry I can't think of a better way to all say that).

Also, I seem to be having some difficulty with Lilypond: The "b" in the next-to-the-last measure should be an octave lower, but, I can't get it to move down to save my life. Likewise, the "d" in the final measure should be an octave higher.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can lend!

p :)

How to insert music:

Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.

How to post an audio recording:

If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:

  1. Record your audio here.
  2. You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
  3. copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]

How to mark a thread as solved:

If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
