Is there a limit on how much you can post in lilypond or something? I separated it into three separate lines.

Yes, currently there is a limit to one system since I use the Lilypond "preview" feature for generating these bitmaps. As you already noticed, the workaround is to just create multiple Lilypond entries.

I guess I should make this a bit nicer and raise the limit from one system to one page. I am going to tell Lilypond that I want not a preview, but the whole first page. Then, I will have to run some other program for cutting the actual music out of the bitmap and finally crop it by removing the empty white space that I expect to make up most of the first page. As a result, the bitmaps should still be rendered very much like now, that is, just as big as necessary, but there will be a limit to one page (many systems) instead of just one system, so in practice I would expect that nobody will encounter this limit anymore. Until that is done, we are stuck with the workaround of closing and re-opening the Lilypond tags.

Cheers,

Rainer

Should be "Lesson a-Moll" HWV 496 for harpsichord.

Thank you so much for your help!

I've listened to a midi file of the andante allegro movement of the concerto, and it sounds similar but not the same as what I'm playing. The allegro you suggested is in a major key - mine sounds like it's in a minor key.

I'll add some more below. The bars join up...I put the first beat to show the joins.

Here are the first four bars:

If more is needed, I will post some more! Thank you.

A detailed list of Handel's compositions shows that his concertos, sonatas, suites, etc, were written specifically for one or more of organ, harp, violin, recorder, oboe, harpsichord or various mixtures of them but absolutely nothing is listed in like manner for cello.

In the case of your little tune, it was one of the themes of a harp concerto that was later converted into the op.4/6 organ concerto. Transcription of such music for playing on a cello (or any solo instrument) is a common practice - has been for well over 100 years.

Thanks!

Yesterday my teacher said that it was written for solo cello... is this correct?

Hi,

***About the above...how can I make it turn out? - Thank you...this has been fixed! ***

I'm playing this piece for my saxophone exam and all I know is that it's by Handel and the title is 'Allegro'. I would like to find a recording and know where the 'Allegro' is taken from. So if anyone knows anything about this - the original instrument this is written for, when it was written - it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would really like to know before my exam (which is in less than two weeks) so please, if you know anything...

Thank you.

How to insert music:

Add a bit of sheet music, along with a MIDI file, simply by entering note names in Lilypond syntax between the [L] and [/L] tags.
For example, you can try what happens if you enter: [l]g'4 g'4 d''4 d''4 e''4 e''4 d''2[/l] (use the Preview function if you don't actually want to post this).
You can create these lists of note names by clicking on piano keys here.

How to post an audio recording:

If you just want to sing, whistle, or play a melody so that other forum visitors can hear it, follow these steps:

  1. Record your audio here.
  2. You should notice a 32-character hash code, something like: 2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf
  3. copy this hash code and paste it into a forum post, enclosed in the audio tags, for example: [audio]2a40281c5001c5a7d8c9f57fcdeccfaf[/audio]

How to mark a thread as solved:

If the original question in a thread is solved, please mark it as solved using the "solved" icon (or by just typing [solved] into your post). This makes life easier for people who are willing to identify melodies, since unsolved problems are easier to spot that way. If a problem turns out to not be solved after all, just write [/solved] in a new post, and the thread will be labeled accordingly.
