The Open Music Encyclopedia

Welcome to Musipedia! Inspired by, but not affiliated with Wikipedia, we are building a searchable, editable, and expandable collection of tunes, melodies, and musical themes.

source url Every entry can be edited by anybody. An entry can contain a bit of sheet music, a MIDI file, textual information about the work and the composer, and last but not least the Parsons Code, a rough description of the melodic contour.

Contributors

Rainer Typke started this website and is running it, but there are many more people whose contributions are important:

  • The registered members who edit and add melodies,
  • Agatha Walczak-Typke created the logos,
  • 常俊莹 (Chang Junying) helped with the translation to Chinese,
  • Guillaume Fallet did the French translation and contributed many ideas on how to make the website more user-friendly,
  • Scott Schiller published the "Sound Manager", which is used for the Javascript keyboard,
  • Michael Schierl greatly improved the keyboard on the main page by adding, among other things, a cursor and the computer keyboard mode,
  • the authors of open source software that is integrated into Musipedia: the Lilypond music typesetter (by Han-Wen Nienhuys and others), the Typo3 content management system, the MySQL database and others.
  • The Javascript keyboard uses samples by Freesound user angstrom which are licensed under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 License.
